EPA in Tucson to discuss Rosemont copper mine

EPA officials from San Francisco have been in Tucson the past couple of days to review the proposed Rosemont copper mine in the Santa Rita Mountains, about 20 miles south of the city. We hear they spent a day with Pima County staff. On Tuesday afternoon they went to the Santa Ritas to see the mine site and adjacent canyons that opponents fear will be harmed by mining. [Update - I revised this post to correct an unintended implication that EPA met only with opponents. 3-6-12 9:28pm]

EPA last week issued a stinging critique of the project and of the Forest Service's EIS of the proposal.
